But it became harder and harder over time, with the corporate mega-sites eventually dominating everything, specifically designed to bring out the worst in people and make some rich twat's bottom line go up.

EXCEPT, escaping this walled garden is still possible! Many, MANY projects have sprung up in the shadows, attempting to recapture the magic of the early Internet. So many in fact, that I felt the need to bring them all together in one place, on an unprecedented scale.
